blurred out photo of VBISD board members- can't really make out too much because there's a yellow overlay on the photo with the text "National School Board Appreciation Month" over it

The key to a brighter future for Michigan’s children is a strong public education system, made possible through the dedication of committed community leaders. VBISD is proud to join 537 local and 56 intermediate school districts across Michigan in recognizing the extraordinary service of school board members who approach their responsibilities with unwavering commitment. These individuals serve as community leaders, establishing a vision for public education, ensuring accountability, advocating for continuous improvement, and representing the values and priorities of their communities.

National School Board Appreciation Month is one small but meaningful way to express our gratitude for their countless hours of service and leadership. School board members reinforce the principle of local control- an essential and deeply valued aspect of Michigan’s public education system. Their work includes setting learning standards, aligning financial and human resources, creating safe and supportive learning environments, monitoring progress, and focusing relentlessly on student achievement.

Throughout January, VBISD will recognize its board members to highlight their service and express gratitude for their leadership. Even beyond this month of recognition, VBISD acknowledges that school board members contribute hundreds of volunteer hours annually, participate in ongoing professional development, and remain deeply engaged in school and community activities. Through their governance, collaboration, and advocacy, they help shape the future of education in Michigan. VBISD encourages all members of the community to take a moment this January to thank a school board member and recognize the important role they play in preparing today’s students to be tomorrow’s leaders.
