Van Buren Intermediate School District

This afternoon, a gas leak was detected at Van Buren Tech, located near the Bert Goens Learning Center. As a precaution, both buildings were safely evacuated. VBT students were escorted to the VBISD Conference Center, and Learning Center students were transported home early.

The VBISD administrative team immediately contacted local authorities and Consumers Energy to assess and resolve the issue. Thanks to the swift action of our staff and the cooperation of our students, the evacuation was completed calmly, quickly, and safely.

At this time, access to Van Buren Tech remains restricted until authorities clear the building. We are hopeful that repairs will be completed in time for school to resume as scheduled tomorrow. Families will be notified by 6:00 a.m. if there are any changes.
