Dear Van Buren County Community,

Recently, during a routine truancy meeting with a local Van Buren County student, we learned the student was experiencing food insecurity at home and rarely has any food. The only time this student eats is when they are at school. We immediately went out and purchased groceries with our own money so this child would have food over the weekend.

Food insecurity is a major issue many students face throughout rural Van Buren County. Often, the meals that they eat at school are the only one's they will have for the day. Too many kids struggle to have enough food for dinner, let alone meals on the weekends and during school breaks.

This experience was upsetting and real. While there are some food bank resources available in the county, lack of transportation often creates a barrier for our kids that need it the most. We wondered if we could collect enough supplies to provide these students with food items that they can take home and easily prepare so that they can have meals on the weekends.

We are asking that you help us with our goal of feeding kids. Please consider providing a donation through our Amazon link below that ships directly to us so we can get this food out where it is needed.

*This campaign will run from 04/22/2024 - 05/03/2024 with donation bins located in the VBISD Conference Center and VB Tech if you would like to drop off a donation in person. You can donate to our online Amazon campaign anytime.
