Outlooks
The Career Readiness Outlooks section is designed for students interested in continuing their education/training, securing full or part-time employment, and living independently after high school. As a part of Outlooks, students visit the Career Transitions Center and Michigan Career and Technical Institute. They job shadow various Van Buren Technology Center programs, while practicing the employability and social skills necessary for the workplace. The course includes resume writing, mock interviews, filling out practice job applications and completing work related tasks in a timely and efficient manner. Students learn about self-determination, self-advocacy and how to connect with community agencies. They also develop independent daily living skills, such as comparison shopping, cooking, budgeting and other money management skills, basic household maintenance and repairs, scheduling appointments, and being proper patrons of businesses within their communities. Students develop their IEP transition goals and learn when and how to communicate their disability to others.
