Maple Creek Education Center

Mission Statement

The mission of Maple Creek Education Center is to maximize the experiences of all learners in a supportive, rewarding and success-oriented learning environment which focuses on individual student needs to develop essential skills, knowledge and values

Philosophy

Maple Creek Education Center has the belief that all children are competent and capable of learning if provided with meaningful learning experiences and the appropriate learning environment.

Maple Creek Education Center is a centralized, self-contained program with 6 classrooms in Bangor, MI. We serve K-12 students with disabilities who display severe social-emotional and behavioral deficits which prevent their educational needs from being met within their local school setting for an extended period of time.

Each classroom includes a special education teacher and 2 program assistants for a maximum of 10 students. Support services for the program include: a Consultant, School Social Worker, School Psychologist, Speech Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Behavior Intervention Specialists, Secretary, Custodian, and Transport Person. The program is supervised by Supervisors of Special Education (Principal and Assistant Principal).

Our Primary Goals:

  1. Teach behaviors necessary to be successful in the general education school setting and in the community.

  2. Increase students’ academic skills and remediate academic deficits.

  3. Provide the knowledge and skills in areas required by the Michigan Merit Curriculum.

  4. Improve students’ awareness and acceptance of themselves (self-concept).

  5. Teach students to express their feelings/emotions in an acceptable manner.

  6. Teach students how to cope with stress and solve problems and conflicts.

  7. Teach students how to interact and form positive relationships with others.

  8. Increase students’ desire to learn and come to school.
