Counselors work directly with Technology Center students by providing career exploration testing and guidance including additional program visits to determine the best program for a student’s transfer. They also work closely with the fourteen school districts’ “home school” Counselors to support county-wide career guidance activities. At the beginning of the school year, counselors present classroom guidance presentations to all tenth grade students as preparation for their “Cluster Visits” to the Center. Each school district’s students visit for a half-day during a two week period in December. Students explore three or more programs to learn about careers they are considering. This career exploration activity is for all students—whether or not they will include the Center as part of their schooling. Next, counselors assist eight grade students with their Educational Development Plans (EDP). The center provides EDP guidance materials, a computerized EDP program and assists the home school counselors in meeting with each student to develop EDP. At the year’s end, counselors work with the home schools to conduct vocational evaluations for all special education students who are considering attendance at the Center for the following school year. |
