Job Placement > VBTC Job Seeking Guide > Portfolio Guide

The purpose of your portfolio is to help you get a job. Think of your portfolio as an interviewing tool, a way to communicate what you have to offer an employer with evidence to back up your statements.  Focus your portfolio on the skills, experiences and interests you have that are related to your vocation. Your portfolio is an expanded resume that provides more detailed information and evidence.

Each of your portfolio pages will have the following elements:

Organizing your Portfolio So that the reader knows instantly what each page is demonstrating
Portfolio Evidence An exhibition:  A sample of your work, certificate, medal, ribbon, or photograph that demonstrates the skill
Analysis A short, written description that explains what you have learned or what you are demonstrating in your "Evidence"

As you document your training, remember to include equipment, tools, procedures, projects or products.  It is advisable to include a short statement from your instructor or letter of recommendation by a professional in your vocation who can attest to your skills and abilities.
