When you sense the interview is winding down, to improve your chances and get some clue as to how you stand, a technique that you can use is the "hook." The hook is a combined question and statement that gets the interviewer to speak up about how you are doing. The following are examples of the hook:
"I have answered your questions by telling you some facts about my training and experience. Can you tell me if there are any other questions or doubts you still have?"

If you still have not had a chance to show your portfolio ask, "You mentioned that this job requires attention to detail. May I show you the samples in my portfolio which will demonstrate my abilities in this area?"

As you are leaving, remember to:

  • Say goodbye and thank you
  • Shake hands firmly
  • Thank the interviewer by name
  • Inquire when you might check back on the status of the position
