Students receive classroom instruction two days per week to learn beginning teaching skills/methodology. Three days per week, students work with a mentor teacher, gaining classroom experience, first by observing, then advancing to actual lesson development and delivery. College credit is available through local community colleges. Students also have the opportunity to participate in the "Family, Career and Community Leaders of America" (FCCLA) student organization. An application and recommendations are required for the Cadet Teacher program, plus a minimum 2.5 GPA and excellent attendance. Participation in an orientation before the start of the school year is also required.

Since I was 5, I have wanted to be a teacher. After working for 2 years in an elementary classroom, I am sure that this is what I want to do. Something important in life!
I have learned what it will be like to intern in a classroom and have so many different lessons that I will be able to use in the future. Many people change their major in college. However, I feel comfortable going to college because I know what to expect because of the Cadet experience. The students and this program have given me the drive to do a good job in college. so that I will succeed in my future career as an educator. I love teaching! This program will help you know if it is your calling. It did
for me!
