Educational Programs > Special  Education:

The mission for the Special Education Department is to assure that all students who reside within the Van Buren Intermediate School District and who qualify for special education receive the services and programs that allow the students to progress within the general curriculum.  Students receive these programs and services in the least restrictive environment, including natural environment for students who are birth to three years of age.  Students in grades K-12 receive these services and programs with their peers to the extent that the student continues to progress.  More restrictive environments may be deemed necessary, as determined by the student's Individualized Education Planning Team.

All children age birth to 26 residing within the Van Buren Intermediate School District are the primary target for programs and and services.  All services are funded through local, state, and federal sources of revenue.  The delivery of services and programs must comply with both state and federal rules under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA).
